Butter - West U.S.

Released on August 26, 2026

In the West, milk volumes are improving week over week. Smoke and hot weather
conditions have eased. Contacts report decreased milk fat components. Cream
spot loads remain available in California but are tighter in the Northwest and
Southwest. Butter production is strong, and manufacturers report churns are
running full schedules with no downtime. Cream allocated to retail production
lines is steady, and stakeholders indicate retail demand for contracted items
is up. Domestic butter demand has a bearish tone, with mixed reports of butter
availability depending on the manufacturer. Some butter makers are tight on
uncommitted inventories. This aligns with the USDA cold storage report
published Aug 24th, 2026, which reported butter stockpiles are down 3 percent
from last month. Demand for unsalted bulk butter intended for export is down.
