A heat wave continues across the Northern Plains into Minnesota on Friday afternoon as temperatures are yet again well into the 90s. The heat will spread farther south over the weekend with 100-degree readings likely in some areas of the Plains on Sunday and Monday. The Eastern Corn Belt is warm, but with some relief due to widespread wildfire smoke and spotty thunderstorms that are occurring both ahead of and with a little system moving through the area. That system will create some severe thunderstorms across the eastern Midwest on Saturday.
