Whole milk powder (WMP) prices strengthened throughout the range this reporting 
period. Processor prices increased from last month, but are 10 percent lower 
compared to year-ago levels. WMP futures were higher across all contract 
periods by as much as 2.3 percent for January and February. A major New Zealand 
dairy cooperative maintained its projected total WMP offerings for the next 12 
months. 

WMP prices at Global Dairy Trade (GDT) Event 410 were up by as much as 3.3 
percent for October. No product was offered for January or February. October 
and November accounted for 79 percent of total sales. Sales volumes were lower 
than Event 409 but significantly higher than year-earlier levels. North Asia 
was the top buyer, purchasing 50 percent of the volume, up from both 45 percent 
at the previous auction and 38 percent a year ago. Southeast Asia/Oceania 
bought 26 percent of the volume, followed by the Middle East.  

Price support is being driven by concerns over future milk production, as 
drought conditions are forcing farmers to draw down winter feed reserves. The 
price gap between WMP and skim milk powder (SMP) continues to narrow.

Recently released New Zealand export data indicates July 2026 WMP export 
volumes were 95,395 metric tons (MT), an increase of 4.2 percent from the year 
prior. Export volumes of WMP from January-July 2026 were 892,674 MT, up 12 
percent from a year earlier.  

At GDT Event 410, the average WMP price index across all contract periods 
increased to $3,591/MT, up 3.0 percent from the previous event. The September 
contract averaged $3,622/MT, gaining 1.9 percent. Additional WMP price details
