Compared to last week, feeders sold 10.00 to 20.00 lower. The supply of feeders
was light. Much of the calf offering continues to be made up of smaller drafts
and singles many without weaning or health programs. Heat came back into the
picture late week and some areas of the state, generally in the south, are now
having concerns about water and pasture. Fields are brown and crunchy and some
trees even losing leaves. Other areas of the state are much better off with
some hay still being baled and plenty of green grass in pastures at this time.
Demand for feeders is moderate. Media headlines are once again causing a lot of
uncertainty and market volatility. Stick-out sales and drafts 20 head were once
again very limited on lighter weights. Mid-Missouri Stockyards sold 20 head of
472 lb. steers for 459.00. Mo-Kan Livestock Market sold 24 head of 550 lb.
steers for 424.00 and 21 head of 629 lb. steers for 405.00. Ozarks Regional
Stockyards sold 21 head of 705 lb. steers for 362.00. Joplin Regional
Stockyards sold 28 head of 752 lb. steers for 350.00, 242 head of 853 lb.
steers for 337.00, and 34 head of 903 lb. steers for 314.00. Callaway Livestock
Center sold a lot of 515 lb. heifers for 396.00. Lolli Brothers Livestock
Market sold a load of 719 lb. heifers for 335.00. Boxed beef cut-out values
were lower for the week. Choice closed at 376.23, down 9.46 and Select closed
at 361.08, down 0.24 compared to last week. The choice/select spread is 15.15
per cwt. Negotiated feedlot sales as of the 2:00 cutoff time on Friday were
reported just over 65K head, trade in the southern plains was not reported due
to confidentially rules within mandatory price reporting. In the north, live
prices were mostly 218.00-220.00, a few sales at the end of the week were
reported at 222.00 and dressed prices mostly 345.00 with a few late sales at
350.00. The Missouri Stocker formula consists of 1773 head with a weighted
average weight of 553.97 lbs. and a price value of 390.45, 16.24 lower than
last week. The steer/heifer is 32.53 per cwt.
