Lactose - Central and West U.S.

Released on August 27, 2026

Lactose prices pushed higher at the top of the range while the rest of the
series held steady, remaining well above the 5-year average and roughly 20
cents higher than a year ago. Production at some manufacturers is constrained,
with several noting they have virtually nothing available. Inventory remains
extremely tight and spot loads are difficult to find. Demand is strong, with
purchases continuing to outpace supply and new sales reported in the
mid-to-upper $0.70s. The recent tariff announcements have raised concerns among
Canadian customers and may affect export movement. Some contacts expect
conditions to hold steady in the near term and any eventual deflation to occur
gradually rather than through drastic shifts. Overall, the market tone remains
firm.
