BP Shuts Olympic Line After Nov. 11 Release

MIAMI, FL (DTN) –- BP Pipelines North America shut down portions of the Olympic Pipeline system last week after crews discovered a sheen near a right of way east of Everett, Washington, prompting a precautionary halt of product flows across the network, the company said.
“Olympic continues to investigate a release of refined products east of Everett, Washington,” BP said in a statement on Monday.

BP reported that the issue was originated on November 11 and said workers continue to investigate the source of the release while coordinating with multiple agencies on the response.

The Olympic Pipeline system consists of two pipelines in the Everett area, and Olympic is responding to the release on the impacted pipeline in coordination with federal, state, tribal and local authorities, according to the statement.

Olympic restored service on the unimpacted segment of its pipeline system on Sunday, November 16, enabling product delivery.

The Olympic system is a major supply artery for the Pacific Northwest, carrying gasoline, diesel and jet fuel from refineries in Anacortes and Ferndale to terminals in Seattle, Portland and Spokane.

The network spans roughly 400 miles and typically transports around 325,000 bpd of refined products, making it one of the region’s most important fuel logistics assets.
