Skim Milk Powder - South America

Skim milk powder markets across South America remain uneven through mid-2026. 
Argentina's SMP exports rose 8.6% in the January-July period, supported by 
steady regional demand despite softer domestic output earlier in the year. In 
contrast, Uruguay's SMP exports fell 29.4% during January-May, largely because 
SMP is a secondary product in the country's manufacturing mix - processors 
favor whole milk powder and butter, leaving less SMP available for export. 
Chile's SMP exports dropped 30.1% in January-June for similar reasons, as whole 
milk powder (WMP) exports rose sharply. Chile's production is primarily focused 
on WMP and cheese, and producers have reallocated skim solids to these other 
products, resulting in lower SMP output and reduced exportable supply. Brazil's 
SMP import demand showed no change in the January through July 2026 compared to 
the same period last year.
