Skim milk powder (SMP) prices increased at the top of the range, while holding 
steady at the bottom this reporting period. Processor prices were up from both 
last month and year-ago levels. SMP futures strengthened across all contract 
periods, increasing as much as 3.5 percent for September. A major New Zealand 
dairy cooperative maintained its projected total SMP offerings for the next 12 
months.

SMP prices at Global Dairy Trade (GDT) Event 410 increased across all offered 
contract periods by at least 7.0 percent. No product was offered for January or 
February. October and November accounted for 82 percent of total sales. Total 
SMP volume sold was considerably higher than Event 409 and year-earlier levels. 
North Asia was the top buyer, purchasing 41 percent of the total volume, which 
was up from the previous event and year-ago levels. Southeast Asia/Oceania 
followed with 37 percent and the Middle East with 1 percent. 

Price support is being driven by concerns over future milk production, as 
drought conditions are forcing farmers to draw down winter feed reserves. The 
price gap between SMP and whole milk powder (WMP) continues to narrow, and SMP 
is approaching its 12 month high last seen in May. European SMP maintained a 
premium over Oceania SMP.

Recently released New Zealand export data indicates July 2026 SMP export 
volumes were 30,758 metric tons (MT), an increase of 2.8 percent from the year 
prior. Export volumes of SMP from January-July 2026 were 274,341 MT, up 6.1 
percent from a year earlier.

At GDT Event 410, the average SMP price index across all contract periods 
increased to $3,502/MT, up 7.6 percent from the previous event. The September 
contract averaged $3,566/MT, gaining 8.6 percent. Additional SMP price details
