Butter - East U.S.

Released on August 26, 2026

Butter production in the East remains steady, supported by ample milk supplies
and plants operating five days a week. Producers are building inventories in
anticipation of increased demand post-Labor Day. Churn schedules are unchanged
and bulk butter is moving into storage ahead of the holiday baking season. Milk
availability varies by sourcing channel; cooperative affiliated butter
manufacturers relay supplies are seasonally steady, and cooler overnight
temperatures in the Northeast are holding farm output near expectations, while
processors reliant on outside suppliers report milk is tight. Class I pull is
expected to strengthen in coming weeks with more Northeast schools starting,
drawing milk away from some markets, though contacts do not expect a
significant impact on cream demand in the Eastern Region. Continued pulls for
ultrafiltered milk are drawing further on regional supplies. Cream availability
improved somewhat, as contacts relay they are receiving offers of cream rather
than marketing loads themselves. Butter demand remains good in retail
promotions . Retail butter demand and private label sales remain stable. Butter
trading is active, with CME spot prices moving in line with the National Dairy
Product Sales Report and bulk channels. Butter produced outside of the US
continues to trade at a significant premium to U.S. butter, supporting exports.
Cream multiples remain steady, with limited trading on tight inventory.
Overall, the butter market tone is steady.
