Compared to last week: Slaughter steers and heifers mostly steady. Very good
demand for steers and heifers, in spite of the weaker tone of the CME Live
Cattle futures contracts this week. 4 full loads of steers, balance part loads
and stock trailer loads of steers and heifers. A lighter offering this week,
as farmer feeders are busy with spring field work, along with generally few
market ready fat cattle around. The market was active and the quality was high
and the cattle continue to weigh heavy.
Slaughter lambs under 130 lbs 5.00 to 20.00 higher, over 130 lbs not well
compared but much higher undertones evident. Feeder lambs steady to higher
undertones. Slaughter ewes mostly steady. Good to very good demand for
slaughter lambs, best demand was seen for those traditional weight lambs that
are in a much tighter supply, the market was very active. A good offering of
light fleshed feeder lambs and sold on an active market. Good demand remains
for slaughter ewes.
