Compared to last week: Steer and heifer calves traded mostly firm to 10.00
higher, with instances of up to 15.00 higher on a higher quality kinds with at
least two rounds of shots. Quite a few yearlings were on offer today, but do
to last weeks light test no trend is available. Trading activity was active on
good buyer demand. Quality was more attractive this week, consisting primarily
of load lots of yearlings and bunches of unweaned or short weaned calves with
at least two rounds of shots. Buyers continue to show preference for weaned
calves and will pay a premium for them, although vaccination status appeared to
be the most important factor today as the market begins its transition into
fall the fall run. Slaughter cows and bulls traded mostly 10.00 higher.
Replacement cattle were sharply higher, with quality to match. Spotty
thundershowers moved across the region last night, with a chance of more rain
this evening.
