FEEDER CATTLE 454 264 694
Lighter run than last year for the first Graded Feeder special by 250 head,
moderate attendance in barn but very active trade. Following yesterday's
softer board Feeders sold somewhat lower with the heavier end of the run
declining sharper than the 400 weights. 5 to 6 weight Steers $15 per cwt
lower, same weight Heifers $15-$20 per cwt lower. It is worth taking note of
the much greater percentage of #1 muscled Calves compared to #2 shoulder Calves
resulting from a wetter than average grazing season and ample pasture.
However, recent dryer conditions persist in N. Central West Virginia; some
producers hauling water to cattle and a declining outlook on fall pasture
availability.
