Compared to last week, there were too few head in the offering for an adequate
comparison however undertones had feeders steady to firm and calves steady to
weak. Demand was moderate on a very light supply. The supplies were affected
by the hot and humid conditions. The largest draft of the day was 66 head of
740 lb. steers which sold for 325.50/cwt. The USDA's Cattle on Feed Report,
released Friday, reported Inventories were down 1 percent, Placements were down
8 percent and Marketings were down 10 percent compared to a year ago. Our
thoughts and prayers go out to the Roger Parker family. Roger, who passed away
Thursday, was a USDA/MDA Market Reporter in Northeast Missouri for over 40
years. He was a friend and mentor to many and whose wit and wisdom will be
missed by all.
