Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers 5.00 to 15.00 lower. Good to
very good demand, however with the sharp losses in the CME cattle complex there
was pressure on the cash market. Turnout time has arrived, keeping demand for
grass type cattle, and replacement heifers red hot. Wide spread rains last
week brought some relief to many areas. Cash fed cattle were lower,
258.00-261.00, as there was a great amount of uncertainty in the marketplace
this week. There is still great interest in feeding cattle, after last year
was so profitable, but cattle feeders are struggling with getting cattle bought
that look to breakeven with a futures contract that continues to decline.
