Skim Milk Powder - Oceania

Prices for Oceania skim milk powder (SMP) remained relatively stable during the 
reporting period. The bottom of the price range slid slightly, but the top of 
the range remained unchanged. Increasing milk output due to the spring flush 
period is keeping production levels high, and domestic prices dipped slightly 
in response to this increase in supply. 

Despite these plentiful supply conditions, SMP prices outperformed expectations 
at GDT event 390, suggesting export demand remains strong. However, the event 
still resulted in lower prices, as the overall price index declined by 1.6 
percent and prices were down across all contracts for which product was sold. 
Part of this price weakness is due to lower prices from other global suppliers, 
as New Zealand-produced SMP had a premium relative to European SMP. The 
majority of SMP sold at GDT event 390 went to the North Asia region, followed 
by Southeast Asia/Oceania and the Middle East. Overall, the quantity of SMP 
sold was up from GDT event 389 and from the same time a year ago.

During GDT event 390 on October 21, 2025, the average price for SMP across all 
contract periods was $2,559 per metric ton, corresponding to a 1.6 percent 
decrease in the SMP price index from the prior event. The average price for the 
November contract was $2,562 per metric ton, with the November price index down

Recently released export data from New Zealand showed September 2025 SMP export 
volumes were 15,596 MT, a decrease of 3.5 percent from the year prior. Export 
volumes of SMP from January - September 2025 were 288,730 MT, down 6.8 percent 
from the same time frame a year ago.
