Oceania skim milk powder (SMP) prices held steady at the lower end of the range 
and eased at the upper end this reporting period. Processor prices continued 
their upward trend compared with both last month and last year, and Oceania SMP 
maintained its premium over European product. A major New Zealand dairy 
cooperative reported that the forecast total offer volume for SMP over the next 
12 months remains unchanged. 

At Global Dairy Trade (GDT) Event 402, SMP price indices showed mixed movement 
across the available contract periods. June rose 3.9 percent, while August 
declined 1.9 percent. May and July increased 1.1 and 3.7 percent, respectively. 
No product was offered for September or October delivery. Total SMP volume sold 
fell compared with both Event 401 and the same event last year. Southeast 
Asia/Oceania accounted for the largest share of SMP purchases at 40 percent, 
followed by North Asia at 26 percent (an increase from both year-earlier and 
previous event levels), and Europe at 24 percent.

According to Dairy Australia, SMP production in Australia in December 2025 
totaled 21,646 metric tons (MT), an increase of 22 percent compared to 
production totals in December 2024. Australian SMP production from July - 
December 2025 totaled 110,552 MT, an increase of 4.7 percent compared to 
production totals from July - December 2024.

Recently released export data from New Zealand showed March 2026 SMP export 
volumes were 50,342 MT, an increase of 26 percent from the year prior. Export 
volumes of SMP from January-March 2026 were 137,194 MT, down 4.2 percent from 
the same time frame a year ago.

At GDT Event 402 on April 21, 2026, the average SMP price index across all 
contract periods increased to $3,448 MT, a 3.2 percent increase from the prior 
event. The May contract averaged $3,441 MT, up 1.1 percent. Additional SMP
