Compared to last week, steer calves less than 500 lbs sold 3.00 to 5.00 higher,
500 to 700 lbs sold 15.00 to 25.00 higher, 700 to 900 lbs yearlings and big
calves sold 8.00 to 10.00 higher with 9 weights steady. On the heifer calves
under 500 lbs sold sharply higher with most 30.00 cwt higher, 500 to 800 lbs
sold 7.00 to 10.00 higher, yearling heifers with some preg opens in the mix
sold steady. Demand was good to very good throughout the week. Crawford
livestock market hit some all-time new market highs in several weight classes
on Friday. Plus, other auctions across the state are setting new highs weekly
as the auctioneer gravels drops on many weight classes. Buyers are looking for
calves with precondition shots, especially a respiratory shot. Calves without
a fall vaccination program is taking a hit at the auction and selling several
dollars per cwt less than fully vaccinated calves. Nebraska feedlot prices
slid back a tick as packers have cut the hours they are working and pushing
cattle down the road. Live sales sold 2.00 to 5.00 lower at 230.00 and dressed
sales sold 5.00 lower at 360.00.
