Compared to last week, steers less than 600 lbs sold sharply higher, 6 weight
steers sold 20.00 higher, 700 to 900 lbs sold 3.00 to 4.00 lower and 900 lbs
sold 10.00 higher. Heifers less than 600 lbs sold 10.00 to 14.00 higher, over
600 lbs sold 2.00 to 8.00 higher. Demand was good to very good for all weights
and classes of cattle. Several reports of new buyers hitting seats at the
auction and very active internet buying. This week area auctions saw several
all-time new highs on their feeder cattle prices. Feedlot sales also set a new
benchmark last week. Live sales sold 1.00 to 4.00 higher at 229.00 and dressed
sales sold 3.00 higher at 358.00. Spotty rain showers late in the week might
brighten the moods of the agriculture industry for a few days. Some brown
pastures overnight turned green due to the greatness of Mother Nature. But
overall, most of the state is still very dry ranging from severe to extreme.
