Northern Livestock video auction held its Fall Preview September 14th 2026.
Demand was mixed for light offerings.
Demand for light weight calves was mostly moderate to good this sale
as buyers showed good demand for all cattle suitable to develop into yearlings.
Demand for feeder cattle destined for the feedlot was mostly light to moderate.
Demand for yearlings was mostly moderate to good, with some cattle still
selling above breakeven price against the board.
Demand for heifers suitable to make replacements remains good.
Most sets of yearlings were located in the feedlot due to drought conditions
and sold with heavy discounts to cattle out on grass.
These offerings are tagged as fleshy in the report below.
A larger volume of PO's were noticed this sale as lower prices led some
producers to po or wean and move their cattle to the Diamond ring sale in
January.
Market activity was moderate to active throughout the sale with bidders
participating in person, by phone, and via the internet.
Calves weaned for more than 45 days were sold untagged, with most scheduled
for November or later delivery.
Cattle designated as "Value Added" were enrolled in two or more certification
programs and verified by a third party.
The premiums seen for value added cattle were historically light with
some lots seeing little to no premium this sale.
Cattle for current delivery are set to deliver within 14 days of the
last day of the sale, or September 28th, 2026.
A large volume of bred stock was seen this sale.
Demand was mostly moderate.
High feed and fuel costs played a factor in some ranchers decisions as
they weigh the idea of herd expansion.
A large number of POs were seen for bred stock this sale as a result.
Supply included: 70% Feeder Cattle (63% Steers, 37% Heifers).
30% Replacement Cattle (36% Bred Cows, 64% Bred Heifers).
Feeder cattle over 600 lbs was 50%.
Feeder Cattle prices FOB based on net weights after a 0-3% pencil shrink
