Northern Livestock video auction held their Annual early summer special
sale today and yesterday.
This is the first of Northern's Summer video sales.
Demand for feeder cattle was mostly good to very good for moderate offerings.
Demand for all classes of feeder cattle was good to very good across the board.
Demand from Canadian buyers was very good as buyers purchased cattle
to ship north.
Sellers catered to Canadian buyers as many consigners offered to tag
calves to ship north.
Demand for lightweight calves suitable to develop into yearlings was very good.
Weaned calves also saw strong premiums as buyers looked to minimize death
loss by purchasing calves already weaned.
Record high prices were recorded for all weights and classes.
Yearling demand was very good, with several long strings of yearling
steers selling for over $3,000 per head.
The percentage of Po's was very small this sale as buyers took advantage
of record high prices.
Market activity was mostly active throughout the two day sale.
Bidders were active bidding ringside, over the phone, as well as over
the internet.
Calves weaned over 45 days were left untagged.
Most of these offerings sold for November and December delivery.
Cattle tagged as Value added were enrolled in two or more programs and
had to be verified by a 3rd party.
The largest premiums given were for cattle sold as All Natural, NHTC
and GAP combined.
