Compared to last week, offerings of weaned calves was light, with the majority
of this week's run consisting of unweaned calves. Seasonal conditions-cooler
nights and warm days-are creating health challenges for calves, which continues
to temper demand. However, demand remains very strong for long-weaned calves,
while short-weaned and unweaned calves are seeing softer interest. Despite
that, the feeder market saw notable gains this week, with feeder steers trading
$10.00-$15.00 higher. Feeder heifers weighing 300-400 lbs traded $15.00-$20.00
higher. On a light test with less buyer demand, heifers 500lb-600lb traded
steady to $10.00 lower.
