Compared to last week, 400-500 lb steer calves sold steady, with 500-650 lb
steer calves trading unevenly steady as offering was much smaller and quality
not as deep as last week's much larger larger numbers, 650-750 lbs sold fully
steady to firm with spots 3.00 higher on the 650-700 lb steers, 750-850 lbs
sold with a higher undertone on limited comparisons and four pot loads of
850-900 lb steers sold 15.00-20.00 higher than last week's pot loads. Heifer
calves weighing 400-450 lbs sold steady, with 450-600 lbs not well tested on
light offering, 600-650 lbs sold steady to 6.00 higher and over 650 lbs traded
with a higher undertone. Demand was good on a moderate offering with twelve
pot loads of yearlings in the offering. Fed cattle market continues to gain
ground with fed cattle trading up to 230.00 last week has cattle buyers feeling
more optimistic to step back in the market especially on yearlings. Several
stick-out sales included the pot loads with 133 hd of 802 lb steers at 368.00,
pot load steers 864 lbs at 351.75, 120 steers weighing 898 lbs at 346.00 and
pot load of heifers weighing 621 lbs at 380.25. This is the last sale of the
year here at Callaway Livestock and want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and
Happy New Year. Slaughter cows sold mostly steady.
