Compared to last week's very active market, steer and heifer calves weighing
400-500 lbs were not well tested on a light offering, 500-550 lb steer calves
and 550-600 lb heifers on a light test sold with a lower undertone as overall
quality was not as good as last week, a near pot load of 560 lb steer calves
sold fully steady with last week, 600-700 lb steers and a pot load of 606 lb
heifers sold mostly 5.00-10.00 lower, spots 15.00 lower on the steers, two pot
loads of 7 weight steers were not well tested with 3 pot loads of 830-850 lb
steers selling steady to 4.00 lower. Overall the market held up well as Feeder
Cattle futures bounced back after Friday's sell-off with sharp gains on the
front 4 months of 6.22 to 8.70. The velocity of last Tuesday's limit down move
of 9.25 and Friday's sell-off on Feeder Cattle contracts does get attention.
Fed Cattle trade last week was mostly 3.00-5.00 lower at 238.00-240.00. But
order buyers on the good cattle continue to wave their cards and gather feeder
cattle as there were several good quality pot loads of yearlings in Monday's
offering. Several stick out sales included pot load 560 lb steers at 455.00,
pot load 600 lbs at 444.00, pot load steers 775 lbs 374.25, 120 hd steers 829
lbs 359.00 and pot load steers 846 lbs at 357.50. Slaughter cows sold
3.00-6.00 lower.
