Compared to last week, steer calves overall were lightly tested selling in
small packages with a light test of 5 weight steers trading mostly steady on
comparable weights, with 6 weight steers selling steady to 5.00 lower on a
light test with last week, 7 weights were not well tested as quality was not as
attractive, two pot loads of 915 lb steers were not tested with last week but
sold with a steady to firm undertone. Heifer calves weighing 450-500 lbs sold
mostly steady with a pot load of 616 lb heifers trading mostly steady and a pot
load of 817 lb heifers not tested with last week but sold near steady. Demand
was good on a light offering. Despite last Thursday and Friday's sell off in
the Feeder Cattle futures, Feeder futures rebounded late after a lower opening
to close 1.85 to 2.27 higher on the front months as the market held up well
here on Monday especially on the pot loads of yearlings all selling with good
demand. Stick out sales included 120 hd of steers weighing 915 lbs at 340.00;
90 hd of heifers weighing 616 lbs at 415.00 and 66 heifers weighing 817 lbs at
330.00. Slaughter cows sold steady.
