Compared to last week, steers sold steady to 3.00 higher, while heifers sold
mostly 2.00 to 5.00 higher. Demand was good to very good. Slaughter cows and
bulls sold 5.00 to 10.00 higher. Light trading of Kansas negotiated fed cattle
sales sold 2.00 to 3.00 higher at 248.00 to 249.00. In the hay market, Demand
has picked up slightly as buyers remain concerned about drought conditions and
limited rain in the forecast. Forage is available, though much of it is lower
quality. Many producers are holding onto supplies to feed cattle through the
summer. Alfalfa stands have experienced notable pest pressure, with numerous
fields having undergone one or more insecticide applications targeting aphids
and weevils.
