Lactose - Central and West U.S.

Released on April 23, 2026

The lactose price range held steady this week, while both ends of the mostly
range moved slightly higher. Spot trades are reported in the mid $0.60s, with a
handful of higher priced deals driven by short-covered buyers seeking prompt
shipment. Pricing for 100-mesh lactose is running about 3 cents above 40-mesh
pricing. Spot availability remains tight, and overall market conditions are
firm. Q2 contracts continue to move steadily. Some contacts report difficulty
securing 100- and 200-mesh product from preferred brands, and several producers
are reportedly sold out. Buyer interest is somewhat subdued, including reports
of Chinese customers hesitating at current price levels. However, strengthening
prices in Europe suggest that eventual buying interest is likely to emerge.
Overall, the market tone is steady to firm.
