======================================================================
Compared to last report: Trade activity Very Light.
Demand Good to Very Good as drought persists across the state with water
allocation shortages heavily impacting crop planning, with farmers
not sure how many acres of corn they will be able to plant for silage
and alfalfa growers expecting only enough water to cover 1-2 cuttings.
Regions across the state are indicating insect damage due to the warm
temps we had in March.
The late freeze last week has also impacted plant health in some areas.
According to the U.S.
Drought Monitor's High Plains Summary for April 21, 2026, The region
was mostly dry, with isolated rainfall in far southeast Nebraska, northern
and southeast Kansas, and small areas of Colorado and North Dakota.
Temperatures were generally above normal, with the warmest departures
in southeast Nebraska and eastern Kansas.
Dryness and a warm spring led to widespread degradation.
Extreme drought expanded across central and western Nebraska and into
northwest Kansas.
Severe drought expanded in central and southwest Kansas, with new extreme
drought in far southwest Kansas.
Degradation continued across the plains of Wyoming and Colorado, with
expansion of moderate to extreme drought.
Extreme drought was also introduced in southern South Dakota.
Some improvements occurred in southeast Kansas, where moderate drought
and abnormally dry conditions were reduced due to recent rainfall.
For Drought Classifications, 57.86% of the state falls in Extreme-Exceptional
drought (D3-D4) categories, and 42.14% of the state falls into
the Abnormally Dry-Severe Drought (D0-D2) categories.
The next available report will be Thursday, May 7, 2026.
