Butter - Central U.S.

Released on May 28, 2025

Milk output is steady in the Central region and contacts report cooler
temperatures in parts of the region are leaving plenty of cream available for
purchasing. Some contacts note increased spot availability for cream following
the holiday weekend. Ice cream makers are pulling on available cream supplies
as they prepare for the summer. Cream multiples are holding steady in the
Central region. Butter makers are actively churning, and spot loads of butter
are available for purchasing. Since last Wednesday, the spot price for butter
increased on the CME by 18.25 cents to $2.5250. Some contacts attribute
bullishness in butter markets to the NASS Cold Storage report released on May
23rd. This report showed butter inventories at the end of April were down year
over year, and this is the first year over year decline in butter inventories
since early 2024.
