Dry Whey - Central U.S.

Released on June 12, 2025

The bottom of the range and both ends of the mostly price series for Central
dry whey moved higher this week, though the top of the price range was
unchanged. Domestic dry whey demand is steady. Export interest is softening, as
domestic loads priced in the mid-$0.50s are less competitive than dry whey
produced internationally. Spot loads are available, though contacts report
inventories are tighter for some brands, and for dry whey which meets certain
specification requirements, due to strong demand for these loads. Cheesemakers
say spot milk is trading at prices as low as $7-under Class III and they are
using these volumes to run busy production schedules. This is leaving plenty of
liquid whey available for drying, though some plant managers say their focus
remains on higher whey protein concentrates. Animal feed whey production is
limited. Production is in balance with light demand, keeping spot inventories
snug. Prices for animal feed whey are holding steady.
