FEEDER CATTLE 1202 395 265
SLAUGHTER CATTLE 436 357 397
Feeder cattle were too lightly tested last week to develop an accurate market
trend, however higher undertones were noticed on all offerings. Demand for all
feeder cattle was very good. A few load lots were seen this week and these
offerings were met on very good demand. Even small lots of high quality
yearlings sold with good demand as buyers built to loads. CME feeder cattle
positions have raced higher over the last few weeks and buyers have tried to
keep up as each sale is higher than the last. Demand for cutting bulls remains
very good with several buyers looking for bulls to cut and make steers. Bulls
are bringing a very small discount to steers over the past few weeks. Market
activity was mostly active this past week with many bidders noticed both in the
stands and over the internet. Weigh up cows sold on mostly good demand for
light to moderate offerings. Demand for slaughter cows was mostly moderate to
good, but not as strong as the previous week. Slaughter cows were to lightly
tested the previous week to develop an accurate market trend, however steady to
weak undertones were noticed on all offerings. Very few cow were purchased to
slaughter as too many feeding cow buyers were present this week and many were
willing to take cows which were slightly blemished. Feeding cows sold on good
to very good demand as private feeders and packer buyers both showed strong
demand for high quality cows to feed. Demand for replacement cows was very good
as ranchers purchased several sets of exposed cows away from both feeding
buyers and slaughter buyers. The set listed in the report is a set of 10-13
year old cows which were exposed to balancer bulls. Quality limited demand in
spots as very few attractive cows were seen this week. Quality was mostly plain
to average, with a limited offering of attractive cows noted. Feeding cows sold
fully steady. Slaughter bulls sold on good demand for moderate offerings
slaughter bulls sold mostly steady to 2.00 lower as northern packers showed
slightly lighter demand for all slaughter cattle. Young age cows suitable to
feed or rebreed sold on good demand for limited offerings. Several buyers
purchased offerings to feed as supplies of market ready cattle remain tight and
buyers looked for fleshy offerings which would finish quickly or could blend on
to market ready loads. offerings were too light to develop an accurate market
trend, however steady undertones were noticed.
