Compared to last sale: (8/25/25) Today Public auction yards hosted their annual
breeding ram and ewe special. Demand for breeding rams and ewes was mostly
moderate with a large crowd on hand actively bidding on replacement offerings.
Feeder lambs under 60 lbs sold sharply higher with most sales 20.00-25.00
higher. 60-89 lbs lambs generally steady. lambs over 90 lbs sold mostly
4.00-8.00 higher. Demand for feeder lambs was mostly moderate to good for heavy
offerings. Demand for lambs improved throughout the sale and waned as buyers
filled loads. A large crowd of ethnic buyers were in the stands this week. Some
ethnic buyers stated they were purchasing for Rosh Hashanah which is September
22-24th this year. Ethnic demand was significantly stronger this sale compared
to last sale. At times ethnic buyers and traditional feeding buyers both tried
to purchase the same weight class of lambs. This helped improve prices over
last sale. Slaughter lambs sold mostly 3.00-6.00 higher in a narrow comparison.
Demand for finished lambs was very good as demand for fed lambs has improved
across the country in the last few weeks. Market activity was mostly active
this sale, with good buyer participation seen from both slaughter and feeder
buyers. Demand for slaughter ewes was mostly moderate to good. Slaughter ewes
sold mostly steady to 3.00 higher on good yield grade 2-3 and utility ewes.
Very fleshy ewes saw the most increase in demand this week as ethnic buyers
showed very good demand for very fleshy ewes and for high yielding black face
ewes. Good 3-4 yield grade ewes sold mostly 10.00 higher. Slaughter kids all
sold 20.00-40.00 higher on very good demand from ethnic buyers. Demand for
feeder goats was mostly good. Buyers feeding kids specifically for ethnic
slaughter showed good demand for all light weight kids this week. Kid quality
was mostly average to attractive. Feeder kids sold 40.00-50.00 higher. Goat
offerings were heavy.
