Stalled Front Continues Southern Showers, Daily Showers Also Hitting Plains

An old front from last week will remain quite active across the southern tier of the country throughout the week. The Plains will also be busy with daily showers and thunderstorms.

In the Midwest, a system moved through during the first half of the holiday weekend, while some isolated showers filled in behind it for the second half. A front far to the south could bring showers across the Ohio River for a few days this week. Meanwhile, another front will slowly push through the region through midweek before pushing south and out of the region by Thursday. Some isolated showers may develop along it as well. Drier conditions are likely behind that front through the coming weekend. Overall, soil moisture is very good for a lot of the region.

In the Northern Plains, some isolated showers fell over the long holiday weekend, but most areas stayed dry. A system in the West will produce scattered showers for western areas throughout the week, but make it difficult to get into the eastern Dakotas until maybe the weekend. The showers will be scattered, improving soil moisture in some areas while leaving others drier.

In the Central and Southern Plains, a front remained quite active over Texas and Oklahoma over the holiday weekend, producing pockets of showers and thunderstorms and heavy rain. Isolated showers were found farther north. Showers will remain very scattered across the south this week while northern areas will see more coverage throughout the week as well. That should help to improve soil moisture for a lot of areas this week.

In the Delta, an old front from last week continued to produce showers and thunderstorms in the region over the holiday weekend, and continues that through this weekend as well. Drought areas are taking a large hit with the previous and forecast rainfall, which may produce some areas of flooding as well.

In the Southeast U.S., an old front waffled around the region throughout the weekend, producing areas of showers and thunderstorms, heavy rain, and some severe weather. The heavy rain is taking its toll on the ongoing drought, improving soil moisture and reducing the severity. The continued rainfall throughout this week and weekend should do the same, but may produce some areas of flooding as well.

In the Western U.S., a system moved into the northwest on Monday and will stall out in the region for much of the week. Showers will be concentrated over the northern half of the region while the south will see more sporadic and isolated showers. The system will move north into the Canadian Prairies this weekend, with drier weather to follow behind it. Some drought reduction will be possible across the north, but drought is likely to build across some areas of the south that are continually missed.
