Busy Northern Storm Track This Week

In the Midwest, a system moved into the region and produced scattered showers across the north. Its cold front will be stalled across the northern end of the region throughout the week, continuing to produce showers on a daily basis. Some potential for heavy rain and severe weather is possible. The front should get pushed around and washed out this weekend, but another is likely to move in next week.

In the Northern Plains, a pair of systems moved through the region this weekend, producing areas of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Though Monday may be a dry day, areas of showers and thunderstorms are looking likely throughout the week. If rain can be consistent and heavy enough, it may be able to help reduce drought.

In the Central and Southern Plains, a front pushed into Nebraska over the weekend and produced some showers there. It will remain there for much of the week, continue to provide potential for showers. Some may also develop in the southwestern Plains at times as well. Otherwise, a lot of the region will be hot and dry this week, pushing more areas deeper into drought.

In the Delta, some isolated showers developed over the weekend, but most areas stayed dry. Some spotty showers will be possible closer to the Gulf, otherwise it will continue to be dry this week, reversing last week’s rainfall and pushing the region deeper into drought.

In the Southeast U.S., isolated showers developed over the weekend and were concentrated closer to the Gulf and Southeast coasts. That will largely be the case this week as well. Areas farther inland will see very little or no rainfall until maybe this weekend. That could bring about some increasing dryness into the region.

In the Western U.S., monsoon showers were heavy across Arizona and Utah, which saw some areas of flooding. Other showers speckled the interior of the region throughout the weekend as well. Monsoon showers will again be heavier in the Four Corners area for Monday but have a tendency to disperse the rest of the week. Tropical storms well off the coast of Mexico could still bring in some moisture to the Southwest throughout the week, though. Across the Pacific Northwest, the region will see several systems moving through. They should be bringing more widespread showers and thunderstorms throughout the week, helping to ease drought in these areas.
