DTN Weekly DDG Price Slightly Lower on Average

MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) — The average DTN spot price for domestic distillers dried grains (DDG) from 33 locations reporting for the week ended May 21 was $185 per ton on average, down $1 versus one week ago. Some traders noted that there is plenty of supply and demand has slowed somewhat.

DDG prices were mixed but slightly lower on average for the week, while cash corn was lower and soybean meal prices were lower versus one week ago, down $4.20 per ton. As for cash corn, the DTN National Average Corn Index was down 4 cents versus one week ago.

Based on the average of prices collected by DTN, the value of DDG relative to corn for the week ended May 21 was 1.12%. The value of DDG relative to soybean meal was 56.33% and the cost per unit of protein for DDG was $6.85 compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at $6.91.

U.S. Grains and Bioproducts Council, in its weekly distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) export market prices report, showed these June prices as of May 21: CIF NOLA barge price was steady at $252 metric ton (mt) versus on week ago; FOB vessel Gulf price was up $2 at $267 mt; rail delivered PNW was down $5 at $272; and rail delivered to California was up $2 at $274 mt.

Ethanol production in the United States averaged 1.111 million barrels per day (bpd) in the week ended May 15, the Energy Information Administration reported Wednesday. That’s up 29,000 bpd week-on-week and 75,000 bpd, or 7.2%, higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 1.055 million bpd was 32,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year. Midwest ethanol production averaged 1.056 million bpd, up 34,000 bpd week-on-week and 76,000 bpd, or 7.8%, higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 999,000 bpd was 34,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year.
