DTN Weekly DDG Price Higher on Average

MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) — The average DTN spot price for domestic distillers dried grains (DDG) from 33 locations reporting for the week ended July 30 was $155 per short ton on average, unchanged versus one week ago. DDG prices were mixed, with some merchandisers telling DTN that the extreme heat has hurt spot demand.

The cash corn price was lower versus one week ago with the DTN National Average Corn Index down 18 cents per bushel (basis SEP), while soybean meal prices were down $9.10 per short ton (basis DEC) versus one week ago.

Based on the average of prices collected by DTN, the value of DDG relative to corn for the week ended July 30 was 0.926%. The value of DDG relative to soybean meal was 48.02% and the cost per unit of protein for DDG was $5.74 compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at $6.80(basis DEC).

U.S. Grains and Bioproducts Council in its weekly distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) export market prices report, showed these August prices as of July 30: CIF NOLA barge price was down $7 at $218 metric ton (mt) versus on week ago; FOB vessel Gulf price was steady at $242 mt; rail delivered PNW was down $22 at $253; and rail delivered to California was steady at $248 mt.

The Energy Information Administration reported on Wednesday (7/29 that overall ethanol production in the United States averaged 1.133 million bpd in the week ending July 24, up 39,000 bpd week-on-week and 37,000 bpd, or 3.4% higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 1.09 million bpd was 3,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year. Midwest ethanol production averaged 1.071 million bpd, up 34,000 bpd week-on-week and 31,000 bpd, or 3% higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 1.029 million bpd was 2,000 bpd below the same four weeks last year.
