DTN Weekly DDG Price Higher on Average

MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) — The average DTN spot price for domestic distillers dried grains (DDG) from 33 locations reporting for the week ended April 16 was $186 per ton on average, $3 higher versus one week ago.

DDG prices were mixed but higher on average for the week, while cash corn and soybean meal prices were also higher. Soybean meal prices were up $10.50 versus one week ago. As for cash corn, the DTN National Average Corn Index was up 6 cents versus one week ago.

Based on the average of prices collected by DTN, the value of DDG relative to corn for the week ended April 16 was 1.161%. The value of DDG relative to soybean meal was 56.69% and the cost per unit of protein for DDG was $6.89 compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at $6.91.

U.S. Grains and Bioproducts Council, in its weekly distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) export market prices report, showed these May prices as of April 16: CIF NOLA barge price was down $2 at $255 metric ton (mt) versus on week ago; FOB vessel Gulf price was up $2 at $268 mt; rail delivered PNW was down $14 at $270; and rail delivered to California was up $2 at $279 mt.

Ethanol production in the United States averaged 1.12 million barrels per day (bpd) in the week ended April 10, up 4,000 bpd week-on-week and 108,000 bpd, or 10.7%, higher than in the same week last year, the Energy Information Administration reported Wednesday. Four-week average output at 1.107 million bpd was 70,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year. Midwest ethanol production averaged 1.067 million bpd, up 2,000 bpd week-on-week and 112,000 bpd, or 11.7%, higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 1.054 million bpd was 71,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year.
