Around Seasonal Today

Temperatures will be within 5 degrees of normal across the region today.

General Overview: ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN BRINGS RAIN, SNOW, AND SEVERE STORMS TO NORTHERN AND CENTRAL PORTIONS OF THE US THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK. ABOVE AVERAGE TEMPERATURES DOMINATE CENTRAL U.S.

EAST:  A cold front will push through the northern half of the Eastern US today. Rain and snow will be seen across parts of the Northeast, with rain and thunderstorms likely across the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic as it progresses. Some thunderstorms will likely be strong to severe with large hail, damaging wind gusts, and a few isolated tornadoes all possible. Rain may linger across parts of the southeast on Friday. As the front departs, high pressure builds in for the weekend, resulting in dry and cooler conditions. By Monday, a new low pressure system approaches from the west, bringing widespread rain and thunderstorms to much of the region.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Near normal to slightly below normal temperatures.

-Days 4-6: Warming trend with above normal temperatures, especially in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast.

-Days 7-10: Continued above normal temperatures for most areas, with the warmest anomalies in the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic.

CENTRAL:  Rain and thunderstorms will develop across the Lower Midwest today as a cold front advances across the region, with generally dry weather forecast elsewhere. Some thunderstorms could be strong across parts of IL/MO, with large hail and damaging wind gusts likely. Rain may linger across the southern Plains on Friday, with strong high-pressure bringing dry weather across the region through the weekend. Increasing rain chances may be seen across much of the Central US by early next week as a new area of low-pressure pushes across the region, with a thunderstorm threat possible as well.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Well above normal temperatures for most areas, especially the Plains.

-Days 4-6: Continued above normal temperatures, with the warmest anomalies shifting eastward into the Midwest and Ohio Valley.

-Days 7-10: Above normal temperatures persist for most of the region.

WEST:  Rain and mountain snow may linger across the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies today, with strong high-pressure bringing mostly dry weather to all areas Friday and throughout this weekend. By early next week, rain and higher elevation snow will return across the northern tier, possibly pushing south as the week progresses.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Above normal temperatures for most areas, especially the Interior West.

-Days 4-6: Cooling trend begins, with near to below normal temperatures spreading across the Northwest and Northern Rockies.

-Days 7-10: Below normal temperatures become more widespread across the region, while the Southwest remains warmer than average.

TROPICAL: No tropical cyclone activity is expected in the Atlantic or Eastern Pacific basins over the next 7 days.
