Above Normal Temperatures Persist

Temperatures will be 5-15 degrees above normal yet again across the region today.

General Overview: SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE IN THE SOUTHEAST, HEAVY SNOW AND FREEZING RAIN THREAT IN THE UPPER MIDWEST AND GREAT LAKES, WARMING TREND FOR THE WEST

EAST:  A potent storm system will bring the threat of severe thunderstorms to parts of the Southeast on Sunday, with the risk area extending from the Gulf Coast northward into the Tennessee Valley. Heavy rainfall and strong winds will be the primary hazards. As the system moves eastward, rain will spread across much of the Eastern Seaboard by Monday. Colder air wrapping around the backside of the low will bring a chance of snow to parts of the Northeast by midweek.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Near normal to slightly below normal temperatures

-Days 4-6: Warming trend with above normal temperatures spreading across the region

-Days 7-10: Continued above normal temperatures for most areas

CENTRAL:  A complex winter storm will impact the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes region early in the week. Heavy snow is possible across parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan, with accumulations of 6 inches or more in some areas. South of the snow, a significant freezing rain threat exists for portions of Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana. As the system moves east, rain and thunderstorms will develop across the lower Mississippi Valley and Ohio Valley. By midweek, high pressure will build in, bringing drier and milder conditions.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Below normal temperatures across the northern tier, near normal elsewhere

-Days 4-6: Warming trend with above normal temperatures spreading from west to east

-Days 7-10: Well above normal temperatures for most of the region, especially in the Plains

WEST:  High pressure will dominate the weather pattern across much of the West early in the week, bringing dry conditions and gradually warming temperatures. Some rain and mountain snow will be possible in the Pacific Northwest. As the week progresses, a strong ridge of high pressure will build over the region, leading to unseasonably warm temperatures across much of the West.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Near normal to slightly above normal temperatures

-Days 4-6: Significant warming trend with well above normal temperatures

-Days 7-10: Continued well above normal temperatures, with some areas potentially seeing temperatures 10-15 degrees above average

TROPICAL: No tropical cyclone activity is expected during the next 7 days.
