AAR: Petroleum Carloads Up 21.5% for Week Ended Feb. 21

SECAUCUS, NJ (DTN) – The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reports that petroleum and petroleum product carloads totaled 11,007 during the week ended February 21, up by 21.5% from the same week a year ago.

Year-to-date, petroleum and petroleum products carloads totaled 76,141, up 6.0% from the corresponding period of the prior year, an AAR report published on Wednesday (2/25) showed.

Weekly traffic for the profiled week totaled 507,712, up 10.7% from the same week a year ago.

Total carloads for the week ended February 21 reached 227,124, higher by 17.6% from the same week of last year.

Weekly intermodal volume was 280,588 containers and trailers, up 5.8% from the corresponding week of the prior year.

Year-to-date, U.S. railroads reported carloads at 1,524,373, up 5.3% on the year.

Cumulative intermodal units were 1,912,503, down 0.8% from a year ago.

Total rail traffic for the first seven weeks of the year was 3,436,876 carloads and intermodal units, up by 1.8% on the year.
