Compared to last week: It looks like a two-tiered market today, with
better-quality steers and heifers selling 5.00 to 15.00 higher. However, just
cattle-steers and heifers both-are selling near steady to 3.00 lower. Some of
these fancier cattle seem like priceless artifacts, and buyers are eager to
have them. Demand is very good for all classes after a slow start. The quality
has improved throughout the day, with many being average or more attractive.
Several large groups of lighter weight cattle are available today. Rains moved
across parts of the state late last week, but it was a quick system, and if you
were lucky, you might have gotten an inch. Most received less than half an
inch. Much of the state still has a big need for rain.
