Compared to last week: Yearling steers and heifers were too lightly tested to
develop any market trend. Yearling quality was mostly plain. Steer calves under
400 lbs were too lightly tested either this week or last week to develop any
market trend, steers 400-599 lbs sold mostly 10.00-15.00 higher. Steer calves
over 600 lbs sold mostly 5.00 higher. Heifer calves under 450 lbs sold sharply
higher with most sales 20.00-35.00 higher, heifers 450-599 lbs sold 8.00 to
10.00 higher, heifers over 600 lbs were too lightly tested last week to develop
an accurate market trend, however steady to firm undertones were noticed.
Demand for calves was mostly moderate to good for moderate offerings. Calf
quality this week was mostly average to attractive. Demand for lightweight
offerings suitable to develop into yearlings remains very good on both sexes
but was particularly good this week on heifer calves. Demand for replacement
heifers remains very good with most heifers over 575 lbs being purchased to
develop into replacements. CME positions traded sharply lower today with
January through September 2026 contracts trading limit lower. Despite lower CME
positions demand for all classes of feeder cattle was good today. Canadian
buyers were particularly aggressive today buying both light weight cattle and
heavy weight cattle. Market activity was active with a larger crowd on hand
seen again this week compared to last week. Internet bidding remains sluggish
and large gaps between front end calves and average to plain calves continues
to be seen. No cows will be sold on Thursdays in the fall.
