FEEDER CATTLE 4833 3301 3125
Compared to last week: Yearling steer 800 to 849 lbs mostly steady, 950 to 999
lbs 5.00 to 7.00 higher. Best test on yearling heifers 850 to 899 lbs 4.00 to
8.00 higher. Too light a calf test last week to compare. Good to very good
demand for yearlings today with loads and strings off grass seeing the best
demand. These cattle were most attractive in quality and flesh condition as
yearling quality varied widely today, especially on packages. Producers are
gathering and cleaning out any leftover yearlings to prepare for the next
generation of calves. A larger calf offering than last week with demand for
calves moderate to good. Many packages and just a handful of loads on offer,
all off the cow. Quality varied quite a bit on calves, from plain to
attractive. A wide range of shot programs, from no shots or just a 7 way to a
full, comprehensive program. The wide price spreads reflect the discount
buyers give to calves which have not been fully vaccinated. An active market
on yearlings, moderate to active on calves. The feeder cattle futures fell
sharply today putting quite a bit of uncertainty back into the fall outlook.
Next feeder cattle sale is Wednesday, October 29.
