Compared to last week: Steer calves under 550 lbs steady to 5.00 higher, over
550 lbs 20.00 to 30.00 higher. Heifer calves 10.00 to 20.00 higher. Yearling
feeder steers under 1000 lbs 20.00 lower in a narrow comparison, over 1000 lbs
2.00 lower. Yearling feeder heifers 750-900 lbs 5.00 to 10.00 lower, over 900
lbs steady. Good demand for this nice offering of spring born calves. The
calf market was very active as there were plenty of farmer feeders on the seats
wanting to buy calves. Many small packages, yet there were some bigger strings
including 1 consignment of 680 head of weaned steer and heifer calves.
Moderate to good demand for the large offering of yearlings, many full loads
and multiple load lots. Flesh condition light to moderate plus, attractive
overall. Higher Live and Feeder Cattle futures helped to support the calf
market, but yearling buyers are worried about the winter months at now only at
221.00-222.00. Cash fed cattle traded as low as 218.00 last week in Iowa.
