FEEDER CATTLE 5717 893 4382
Compared to two weeks ago: Feeder cattle lightly tested two weeks ago to offer
a good comparison with this week's special anniversary BBQ sale. There was a
very large offering of feeder cattle this week, higher undertones prevailed.
Good demand for spring born calves, very good demand for yearlings. The calf
market was active across all weights, as there were enough farmer feeders
present ready to compete to get calves bought. The yearling market was active,
in spite of the sharp declines seen in the CME cattle complex last Friday.
Futures contracts stabilized and posted gains of nearly 2.00 for Live Cattle,
helping to settle the nerves of cattle feeders. Many long strings of yearlings
offered, flesh condition ranged from light fleshed to heavy. In spite of the
volatility in the futures complex cattle feeders seemed to roll with it and it
didn't have much effect on the market at the auction as they know how limited
the supply of yearlings is.
