Compared to two weeks ago, steers and heifers sold steady to 15.00 lower with
the mid weight steers weighing 600-725 lbs and the heifer calves under 600 lbs
holding up the best. Overall, the market was more uneven with buyers getting
pickier on quality and condition. Demand was moderate to good for a moderate
supply that offered several loads and packages of yearlings with a few groups
of calves mixed in. Cattle futures were sharply lower on Tuesday with most
feeder cattle contracts limit down, resulting in the slight adjustment of
prices Wednesday. Despite a lower trend, the market is still impressive.
Slaughter cows sold 1.00-3.00 lower.
