Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold 2.00-4.00 higher. Steer
and heifers calves sold 3.00-9.00 higher. Demand was good on a very light
supply. Only three drafts in the offering were over twenty head with the
largest draft being 81 head. Today's supply was impacted by excessive heat
warnings throughout the region. Buyer demand was notably lower for short or
unweaned calves, as well as those carrying fescue hair or appearing fleshy.
These types were discounted due to concerns over high shrinkage and increased
stress under extreme heat conditions.
