Compared to last week: Feeder steers unevenly steady, heifers 2.00 to 5.00
lower. Very good demand for lightweight fall calves, good demand for
yearlings. The cash fat cattle market was lower this week, in the mid to high
230s as packers cut their weekly kill totals. The feeder market was under
pressure by the end of the week as cattle feeders are starting to become more
cautious. Sale schedules are going to every other week in many barns, so
buyers have to act when they have a chance to fill their empty pens but they
are very much aware of the great risk in the market and trying to proceed
accordingly. A very hot week with triple digit temps but rain over the weekend
and into next week and cooler temps.
