Compared to the last auction three weeks ago, feeder steers and heifers sold
sharply higher. A heavy supply of feeders to kick off the first sale of the
new year and consignors brought the goods that buyers want. The majority of the
offering had ample quality, was weaned, vaccinated, and carrying only average
flesh. Demand was good to very good and buyers bid aggressively from start to
finish. Prices have soared back to record levels for many weight classes making
for some very pleased consignors when they pick up their checks. A bit of rain
could even be heard hitting the roof during the auction which was a welcome
sound that hasn't been heard in quite some time. A heavy supply of slaughter
cows and bulls wrapped up the day and sold mostly steady.
