Compared to the previous auction from two weeks ago, steer and heifer calves
sold mostly steady, spots 5.00-10.00 higher on heifers under 550 lbs. Too few
yearlings to establish a good trend. Bulk of the receipts calves. The demand
for calves remains very good as buyers have plenty of cheap feed along with the
expectations of continuing tight supplies. Weather has quickly turned dry with
no precipitation over the past month and none in the forecast. Pastures have
turned brown and the later planted corn and soybeans are prematurely dying.
