NATIONAL FEEDER & STOCKER CATTLE SUMMARY - WEEK ENDING 01/03/2026
RECEIPTS: Auctions Direct Video/Internet Total
This Week: 46,600 5,200 0 51,800
W/E 12/20/25 193,300 26,900 17,600 237,800
Year Ago: 99,500 7,400 4,200 111,100
There haven't been any recent sales this week of New Years and as the recent
sales prior to the holidays was before Christmas meaning a good price
comparison would be very difficult to analyze. With that being said, prices
were quite impressive and undoubtably higher than sales prior to Christmas.
The supply was very light nationwide as most states did not have any auctions
this week, however the demand was good to very good at those that did have
sales. This week's sales were mostly all special sales and not out of the
ordinary as market owners and ranchers want to get cattle marketed while the
supply hasnt dampened demand. Thus far winter has been mild, but buyers
have been aggressively buying cattle for grazing wheat even though many areas
could use some moisture. Overall supplies are expected to remain tight for
the foreseeable future and many grass interest will likely come to the market
well before grass even starts to green. This has been the case for the last
few years but each year it seems buyers come earlier and earlier fearing they
must beat the next guy to get the kind and quality they want. In the upcoming
week, all auction locations will resume their normal weekly sale schedules
with many expecting large auction receipts. Negotiated cash sales in Kansas
this past week were light and sold steady to mostly 3.00 higher 229.00 to
232.00, mostly 232.00. Sales in Nebraska were 2.00 higher on a live basis at
230.00, while dressed sales were 4.00 higher at 360.00. Choice boxed beef
closed on Friday at 349.97, 1.24 lower and Select closed at 346.92, 3.12
higher when compared to last week. Weekly Cattle Slaughter under federal
inspection estimated at 474, 48K more than last week and 31K less than a year
ago. Auction volume this week included 72 percent weighing over 600 lbs and
35 percent heifers.
